The NFF Technical and Development Committee has appointed a journalist as one of the new coaches of the national boy’s U17 team.

The Golden Eaglets, as the Nigerian U17s are known, will now be coached by Akwa United boss Abdullahi Maikaba, with Abubakar Bala as First Assistant Coach; journalist Oluwafunsho Bunmi Haruna as Second Assistant Coach and; Baruwa Abideen as Goalkeepers’ Trainer.

Bunmi Haruna is a broadcaster with Cool FM in Abuja, and holds the CAF B coaching license.

 Nigeria won the FIFA Cadet World Cup (which debuted in China in 1985 as an U16 competition) in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

And in a related development, Bala Nikyu will retain his post as the female U17s, the Flamingoes. He will be assisted by Toyin Ayinla,, Ajuma Peter Otache and Christian Obi, who will be goalkeeper trainer.
