Time is 1960. The union Jack had just been lowered. Optimism and celebration filled the air. Dreams of a great nation. Development was quick and forth coming with visible markers. Groundnut pyramids in the north, the cocoa house in the west and various business involve in the Eastern part. Foreign investments were established in attending numbers. The shackles of colonialism were gone and we could breathe free. The naira was a great symbol of African strength and employment was free and for all.
I speak of a Nation which boasted of a currency stronger than the dollar and dared to sanction France for nuclear testing in the Sahara. I speak of a country that headlined the apartheid struggle in South Africa and fought gallantly for the independence if African nations. The whole world watched with breaths held and lofty expectations to observe the Black phenomenon- Nigeria.
Time is 2018. 58 yearsdiwn the line. The blindfold has just been lowered. Despair and complains fill the air. Dreams of a revolution to past glories. The pyramids are gone, the cocoa house is now a shadow of it's old self and cannot stand tall in the company of towers, the eatern businesses are now labelled "fake" and are next to worthless. Terrorism and power struggles chase the foreign investors away in their multitudes. The shackles of colonialism are long gone but we remain bound by corruption. The naira is a tiny faction of what it was and dates bot speak in the midst of currencies. Employment itself is now abstract; a hopeless wish.
The black phenomenon- Nigeria is now the black rificule- black to the core. The hwole works that watched with breaths held and lofty expectations now sigh deeply "hmm" and laugh us to scorn. Each day, new heights of corruption are attained with astounding and grossly unbelievable stories breaking the hearts of hopeful citizens.
We watched as petroleum was increased from less than a naira to #145. We also watched as we fell into debt to fund non-existent projects. Castles in the air. We need watch asa "jungle revolution" takes place. We watch as ficiobal animals take over the Nigerian business world with brilliant acts if the. 106 million is gone, flying with the wings of eagles and what is the expectation? We are foolishly told pseufo tales of a money swallowing snake making way with 36 million naira and of a monkey- "Jack Bauer" running off with 70 million naira. If this news doesn't kick us into action then nothing else can. Tales of African riches in the hands of beasts is a big disgrace to Nigeria and Africa. The whole world now looks on with ridicule. We are simply put "a laughing stock".
A national Purification is of essence as we have fallen deep into the quagmire of corruption, and terrorism now sticks to us closely like feathers to a chicken. We are now a bed ridden nation in need of surgery. We have heard enough "change" stories. What we need now is a revamp, a total Purification of all sectors. This situation a timely pinch to wake us all from slumber and save us from peril. This is a battl cry to wage war against all for a if corruption. This situation a loud hark to swift action, to our leaders before the central bank gets looted by an arm of mice.
